DVB-SI 16-bit date

EN 300 468 signals dates with a 16-bit Modified Julian Date. BBC R&D and Nagra reported in 2025 that this field becomes ambiguous on 23 April 2038. Test streams produced degraded EPG, guidance and clock behaviour on representative receivers; video and audio continued.

DVB’s proposed mapping treats 32768–65535 as 5 August 1948 through 22 April 2038, and 0–32767 as 23 April 2038 through 9 January 2127 via MJD = value + 65536. Specification update: DVB BlueBook A038 work following DVB Scene 66. Test streams: dvb.org/date-teststreams.

This is a broadcast metadata deadline, not Unix time32. A set-top box can hit both if it also sets its RTC from SI time.
